Samsung LN40B750_LCD HDTVSamsung’s LN40B750 includes a 240Hz refresh rate in its 2009 model. Its black levels may not touch the quality that plasmas offer, but it easily outperforms Samsung’s edge lit LED series of LCD TVs. The LN40B750 has a slew of great interactive features. Users can add widgets for weather, news, stocks, and Flickr photos, even widgets for sports scores, poker, Twitter, trivia, and Yahoo video. The only issue is that the widgets often have a slow, dragging response time.

Note: Samsung’s LN40B750 shares the same features and performance as all models in Samsung’s LNB750 LCD HDTV series. This review here is slightly shorter than the Samsung LN52B750 Review. If you want to find out a bit more about this model (especially about its features), feel free to consult that review as well.

Features

The LN40B750’s 240Hz refresh rate is aimed at improving motion resolution. This and Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus dejudder processing is included with a new custom setting for altering blur reduction and judder. The LN40B750 allows users to access DLNA-certified products through a network connection and its USB ports. Its USB ports allow users to attach USB thumbdrives, MP3 players, and digital cameras. There is also preinstalled content like games, workout guides, recipes, and some slideshows of art and photos with music playing alongside it.

Black Levels

The Samsung LN40B750 beats out the edge lit LED Samsung UN46B7000, and last year’s Samsung LN40A650 in black levels overall. The Toshiba 47ZV650U and Sony’s KDL-52XBR9 can’t compete as well, even though both also feature a 240Hz refresh rate. The LN40B750’s black levels and shadow detail, can’t touch those of the finest plasmas, however.

Color Accuracy

The LN40B750 should be commended for its color accuracy, especially its primary and secondary colors. Plasmas might pop a bit more, but it easily beats out last year’s A650 or similar sets from Toshiba. Samsung’s edge lit LED 7000 series has a similar saturation.

Video Processing

The LN40B750 separates the smoothing effects of dejudder to reduce blur. There is a Custom setting for blur reduction and judder reduction for the best results, which differs from LG’s LH90 series. The 240Hz Sony KDL-52XBR9 doesn’t produce images quite as sharp and exact as LN40B750’s. However, Sony’s set, like the LN40B750, provides around 900 and 1,000 lines of motion resolution. Also, its 240Hz refresh rate offers users a very small discernable difference in regular image reproduction that most viewers won’t notice.

Standard definition

The LN40B750 has great standard-def picture response; working hand in hand with DVD sources just fine. It even reduces jagged edges from video-based sources. The LN40B750 also makes a solid attempt at limiting noise reduction and interacts with low-quality shots 2:3 pull-down decently.

Glare and Reflections

Samsung’s 2008 glossy screen makes its return in 2009, much to users’ chagrin. Brightly lit windows in line with the screen can cause bright reflections, distracting the viewer. Luckily, this is usually only an issue during dark scenes.

Conclusion

The LN40B750’s interactive features, like Medi@2.0, which lets users download content via Yahoo!, Flickr, and other online TV widgets, as well as its overall DNLA connectivity provides users with a solid set. It sports a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and utilizes a Cold Cathode Florescent Light backlight. It also has a Wide Color Enhancer 3 feature for matching colors of the video source. It’s also Energy Star 3.0 rated and has amazing color accuracy.
